Center - Wilmanstrand (from the 19th century it was not part of the county). It was founded in 1783 under the name Wilmanstrand , abolished along with the Kumi province in 1996. A small part of the former county is included in the Vyborg district of the Leningrad region .
History
It was formed from part of the lands of the abolished Kyumenegorsk province as a result of the provincial reform of Catherine II [1] . In accordance with the "Provincial Governance Institutions" adopted in 1775, the Kyumenegorsk province was abolished, and the Wilmanstrand county, established according to the decree of 1783 "On the compilation of Vyborg governorate from six counties, and on renaming the place Serdobolya a city", [2] administrative-territorial unit of Vyborg governorship , transformed in 1796 into the Vyborg province, which, in turn, was renamed in Finland in 1802 [3] . By the beginning of the 19th century, the name "Wilmanstrand" was supplanted by the name "Lapvesisky (Lappesiski)" [4] . After joining the Grand Duchy of Finland on the basis of the decree of 1811, the Finnish province was again called Vyborg [5] . Initially, the county was divided into church spiers ( parishes , volosts) led by lansmans ; the largest of the parishes also had chaplains [6] . By 1910 it was divided into 7 parishes (volosts):
- Valkeala;
- Clemis
- Lapvesi;
- Lumyaki ;
- Savitaypale ;
- Suomenniemi;
- Taipalsaari .
As of 1910, the county’s area was 3,595.7 km², and the population (as of December 31, 1908) was 58,976 people.
By 1940, the county was divided into 9 volosts (communities) :
- Valkeala;
- Kouvola ;
- Lappee;
- Lauritsala ;
- Lemy
- Lumyaki ;
- Savitaypale ;
- Suomenniemi;
- Taipalsaari .
As of 01/01/1938, the county’s area was 3658.24 km², and the population (as of December 31, 1939) was 58,686.
According to the terms of the Moscow Peace Treaty, most of the Vyborg province, including a small part of the Lapvesisky district, departed from Finland to the USSR , as a result of which the county, having decreased in area, became part of the newly created Kumi province. Lapveski County was abolished in 1996 during the administrative-territorial reform in Finland.
