Service history
The Bombardier ship "Samson" was laid in the St. Petersburg Admiralty on November 17 ( 28 ), 1757 and after launching on May 16 ( 27 ), 1758 , it became part of the Baltic Fleet of Russia . The construction of the ship was conducted by shipbuilder I. I. Ilyin according to the design of a shipmaster of the major rank D. Sutherland [3] [4] [5] [6] .
He took part in the Seven Years' War of 1756-1763. In the campaign of 1758, on July 2 (13) left Kronstadt as part of the squadron of Admiral ZD Mishukov , which on July 9 (20) near the island of Amager joined the united Russian-Swedish fleet, which included in the August 28th ( September 8 ) participation in the blockade of the Sound Sound Strait [comm. 5] . After the blockade was completed, the Russian squadron went to the Baltic Sea, and “Samson” separated from it on September 7 (18) and headed for Kronstadt. Throughout the campaign the following year 1759 was located in Kronstadt [4] .
During the campaigns of 1760 and 1761, he took part in the actions of the Russian troops and fleet near Kolberg . From July 25 ( August 5 ) to August 15 (25), 1760, with the squadron of Admiral ZD Mishukov, he moved from Kronstadt to Kolberg . From August 17 (28) to September 8 (19) as part of a squadron of bombing ships took part in the almost daily bombardment of the city and coastal fortifications. From September 10 (21) to September 23 ( October 4 ) made the transition to Kronstadt, having entered on the way to Revel. From July 13 (24) to August 13 (24), 1761, he moved from Kronstadt to Kolberg as part of Rear Admiral S. I. Mordvinov's squadron, where from August 14 (25) to September 15 (26) as part of the detachment of bombing ships again took part in the bombardment of coastal fortifications. September 28 ( October 9 ), 1761 squadron, in which there was "Samson", left from Kohlberg. On October 2 (13), the ships hit a violent storm, during which the bombing ship separated from the squadron and returned alone to Kronstadt on October 14 (25) [3] [7] .
From 1762 to 1764 he did not participate in the voyages and during the whole period of the campaigns of these years was in the Kronstadt harbor [8] .
In 1765, as part of the squadron of Admiral S.I. Mordvinov, he took part in practical swimming and demonstration exercises at Krasnaya Gorka. On 2 (12) June, the squadron left Kronstadt in the Gulf of Finland. On 7 (18) June , Empress Catherine II approached the squadron on the yacht, and for her, demonstration maneuvers of the squadron ships were organized, during which the bombing ship collided with a kick " Vologda " and broke the bowsprit . Because of the collision, the commander of the vessel, Captain 2nd Rank P.A. Koslivtsev, was arrested, and Samson on the same day, under the command of Lieutenant Commander V.Smirnov, took part in the shelling of a specially built town. On July 2 (13), the squadron returned to Kronstadt [8] .
In 1769, the Samson bombing ship was dismantled at Kronstadt [3] [8] [9] .
