Gülsün Saglamer was born in 1945 in the Turkish city of Trabzon . After completing her primary and secondary education in her hometown, she studied at the School of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), receiving a master's degree. Saglamer conducted her research as a doctoral student at the Martin Center in the Department of Architecture of the University of Cambridge ( Great Britain ) in 1975-1976 [1] .
Then Gülsün Saglamer returned to Istanbul. In 1978, she became an associate professor, and in 1988, a professor, working at Istanbul Technical University. In 1993-1995, Saglamer was a visiting professor at Queens University in Belfast ( Northern Ireland ) [2] .
Gülsün Saglamer was elected rector of the Istanbul Technical University and held this position from 1996 to 2004 [3] . She became the first female rector in Turkey . Saglamer is also the president of the European Women Rectors Association [1] . In 2005-2009, she was an elected board member of the Association of European Universities (EUA). She was later elected a member of the Board of Trustees at Kadir Khas University and President of the Technology and Technology Parks Council in Turkey [4] . Saglamer is a member of the editorial board of Open House magazine.
Gülsün Saglamer is one of the three Turkish women scientists represented in the Oxford edition of Women Scientists: reflections Challanges and Breaking Boundries of Magdoln Khargittai [5] .
