Borsch-Komponiets, Vitaliy Ivanovich

V.I. Borshch-Komponiets graduated from the Moscow Mining Institute (today - the Mining Institute NUST “MISiS” ) in 1954. He began his career at the Moscow State University, where he worked as an assistant, assistant professor, professor. In 1957 he defended his thesis, and in 1968 - a doctoral dissertation. In 1970, he was awarded the academic title of professor.

From 1976 to 2000, he headed the Department of Geodesy and Mine Surveying at Moscow State Geological Prospecting University named after S. Ordzhonikidze .

The sphere of scientific activity of V.I. Borshch-Komponiyets includes mine surveying, geomechanics, physical processes of mining, technology of underground mining of ore deposits. The circle of scientific interests and directions reflects the complexity of the problems he solves in managing displacement and rock pressure during underground mining of ore deposits.

One of the first in the country, V.I. Borshch-Komponiets began to develop ideas about the structural weakening of the rock mass by cracks, about the forms of manifestation of this phenomenon in the strength and deformability of pillars, in the stability of the roof of the chambers. In the 1960s, under his leadership, pioneering work was carried out on the experimental determination of stresses in fractured rock masses using the unloading method.

The most significant contribution of V.I. Borshch-Komponiets to the development of technology and rock pressure management in the development of the Dzhezkazgan field . Under his leadership and with direct participation experimentally in natural conditions, the fact of unloading the inter-chamber pillars from part of the weight of the overlying stratum with more rigid barrier and massive pillars was proved, the processes of redistribution of rock pressure during layer processing of powerful deposits were revealed, a number of mechanisms of manifestation of rock pressure were substantiated and investigated; The technology and methods of controlling rock pressure were introduced in the development of flexure zones, powerful flat deposits with bookmark systems.

The scientist used the obtained laws when creating and justifying new methods for managing rock pressure and methods for developing deposits protected by dozens of copyright certificates for inventions. The introduction of new technical solutions by V.I. Borshch-Komponiets into the practice of operating the Dzhezkazgan field brought an economic effect of over 10 million rubles.

V.I. Borshch-Komponiets published about 200 scientific papers on rock mechanics, development of ore and coal deposits, mine surveying. Many of his works have been published abroad.

Since 1973 he was a member of the editorial board of the Mining Journal .

In 1989, Professor V.I. Borshch-Komponiets was awarded the USSR State Prize in the field of science and technology as part of a team of authors for a series of works on creating modern ideas about rock pressure and methods of controlling it during the development of ore deposits. In the same year, the scientific council of the Freiberg Mining Academy , recognizing the great contribution to the development of mine surveying and geomechanics, awarded V.I. Borshch-Komponiets the title of Honorary Doctor of the FGA.

The pedagogical and scientific activity of V.I. Borshch-Komponiets was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples , the sign Miner Glory, and medals.
