Biography
Gong Xiangyu was born into a sports family. Her father, Gong Xinhua, was a member of the Jiangsu basketball national team, her mother, Wei Jiaping, won the high jump competitions at the People’s Games of China in Beijing . Gong Xiangyu started playing volleyball at the age of 12 at a sports school in Jiangsu Province. Until 2014, it was a connecting role and, as such, as part of the Chinese junior team, won the “silver” of the Asian Championship (in 2012) and the “gold” of the World Championship (in 2013) among girls. In 2014, the volleyball player was transferred to the position of a diagonal striker and in the same year she became the Asian champion as part of the country's youth team, and the next year she participated in the youth world championship .
Since 2015, Gong Xiangyu has been a player of the Jiangsu Zenit Steel team, with whom she won the Chinese Championship medals three times, including the gold medals in 2017.
In 2016, Gong Xiangyu was included in the national team of China , which in the same year became the Olympic champion and winner of the Asian Cup , and the next - the owner of the World Champions Cup . In addition, in 2016 the volleyball player became the winner of the Montreux Will Masters , and in 2017 she became the bronze medalist and was recognized as the best diagonal striker in both tournaments.
