Biography
Arsan's father Ostan was one of the youngest sons of King Darius II . In 358 BC e. during mass repressions against representatives of the Achaemenid dynasty, organized by order of the king who occupied the throne, Artaxerxes II of Okha , Arsam's father was also killed. He himself saved his life, perhaps due to the fact that at that time he was in a remote area of the empire.
Sisigambis became the wife of Arsam, who, according to most modern scholars, was his cousin.
Since Arsam did not hold significant government posts, his sons Darius and Oxatr began their careers with lower posts. So Plutarch mentioned that Darius was a royal messenger.
The further fate of Arsam is unknown. It is believed that he died before the accession of his eldest son to the throne in 336 BC. e.
