Biography
Euphrosina Abrahamson was born March 24, 1836 in Stockholm . Abrahamson was the daughter of Jewish parents, the merchant John Leman and his wife Emma Jacobson [2] . At one time, the artist Ernst Yousefson painted a famous portrait of her sister, Jeannette Rubenson.
From 1852 to 1855, Euphrosyne Abrahamson studied singing with opera singer Julius Günther [3] .
In May 1855, she successfully debuted in the role of Panima in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute . Then she continued her studies in Paris with the French tenor Dupre Gilbert . Later, she signed a contract for performances at the Royal Theater (Madrid) and debuted there in September 1858 as Elvira in Giuseppe Verdi 's Hernani opera . In 1859, Abrahamson performed in Vienna at the Bellini opera Norma.
On October 4, 1859, Euphrosyne Abrahamson married businessman August Abrahamson, and this ended her career as an opera singer. Later she was engaged in charity work, in the suburbs of Gothenburg founded a small craft school for local children.
In 1868, Euphrosyne Abrahamson was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music .
On February 7, 1869, Euphrosyne Abrahamson died in Gothenburg after a short illness at the age of 32 [4] .
The singer’s husband, August Abrahamson, in memory of her transferred the Swedish Music Academy in Stockholm to the “Ms. Efrosina Abrahamson Charity Fund” an amount of 25,000 kroons for scholarships to students of the Swedish Conservatory who are engaged in vocals.
