Mārtiшš Brunenieks ( Latvian: Mārtiņš Bruņenieks ; November 24, 1866, Sauki parish (now Viesita region , Latvia ) - July 27, 1950, Riga ) - Latvian teacher, philologist and researcher of Latvian mythology .

Biography

Born on November 24, 1866 in the Sauken parish of the Friedrichstadt county ( Courland province ). He received his primary education at the Sauk school, Jekabpils district school and at the Jelgava classical gymnasium [1] . In 1892 he graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow University , where he studied Slavic philology [1] . From 1892 to 1894 a teacher at the Riga Gymnasium. From 1894 to 1922 he lived in Kiev , where he worked as a teacher in a gymnasium and as a lecturer in German at the university [1] . In 1922 he returned to Latvia , until 1939 he worked as a teacher in the Jekabpils Gymnasium. In 1944 he was appointed lecturer of the German language and professor at the University of Latvia [1] .

In 1926 he was awarded the highest Latvian award - the Order of Three Stars of the 4th degree [2] . In 1939 he was awarded the Cross of recognition of 3 degrees.

He died on July 27, 1950 in Riga. He was buried in the Forest Cemetery [2] .

Scientific activity

In 1892, the first publication in the collection “Pūrs” published the article “Lielu vītu psiholoģija” [1] . In 189 he wrote "The History of English Civilization" [2] . The author of textbooks in the Latvian and German languages [1] . He was a researcher of Latvian mythology using comparative linguistics [1] .
