Biography

Azita Shariati was born in Tehran on January 14, 1968 . In 1988 she flew to Gothenburg , Sweden , to visit her young man, political refugee Farzin Misradi. She decided to stay in Sweden, married her young man (the municipal administrator in Sigtuna ) and learned the Swedish language. She studied food economics at the University of Gothenburg and took courses in statistics, leadership and marketing at a university business school [3] .

When her husband received a new appointment in Nynashamn , the couple moved with their son to Stockholm [4] . In 1998, Azita Shariati signed a contract with Sodexo and became a restaurant manager. She quickly climbed the company’s career path, becoming District Manager, Regional Manager, Sales Director, Business Manager, Sweden Manager and, finally, Sodexo Managing Director in Sweden and Administrative Director in Denmark [3] .

In 2010, as Sodexo's Country Manager for Sweden, she launched a gender equality program to ensure that 50% of leadership positions were held by women (at that time, only 14% were women). By 2015, women accounted for 50% of the overall management of the company and 46% of senior management. In an interview with Veckans Affärer , she explained that she now wants to focus on other areas of equality and inclusion, especially on increasing job satisfaction, to make Sodexo one of Sweden’s best employers. She also intends to expand the interests of the company, possibly by doubling the number of employees. Another area she is going to pay attention to is the reduction of food waste [2] .

In August 2015, Azita Shariati was included in the ranking of 20 women businessmen from the Nordic countries, compiled by the Nordic Business Report , where she was described as “a passionate advocate for gender balance and multiculturalism ” [5] .
