Biography

Thomas Troy Handy was born on March 11, 1892 in Spring City (Tennessee) in the family of Thomas Reed Handy (1849-1940) and Caroline Sofia Gall Handy (1856-1929) [2] . He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1914 [3] , the General Staff Command School at Fort Levenworth in 1927, and the Military College in 1935.

Thomas T. Handy began his service in 1916 as 2nd lieutenant in artillery. As part of the 5th artillery regiment participated in hostilities in France. After the end of World War I, he remained with the occupation forces in Germany, and then was transferred to Fort Sill (Oklahoma).
