History

31 ° appeared during the reform of the Charter of Royal Secret in 1783 in Charleston, USA, carried out by S. Myers and S. Forst. During the reform, another 8 degrees were added to the 25-degree system of the Charter of the Royal Secret, among which there was also 31 °, which was called the great inspector inquisitor [3] [4] .

Legend of a degree

The practical test of a neophyte in the previous degree turns to this extent into a detailed examination for knowledge of the duties to the Masonic order and the laws of the Order of 5 brothers. When teaching a neophyte, the statements of the sages and legislators of Freemasonry are given. This degree teaches us to establish firm laws of impartial justice, taking into account the frailty and imperfection of human nature, to forgive them if there is hope for correction. This degree teaches us that each person deserves the advantage conferred by the presumption of innocence and purity of intent. Anyone who commits himself to judge others must first judge himself [5] [6] .
