History
Starting from the 15th century, the Spanish kingdom moved the Reconquista to the southern shore of the Mediterranean . For centuries, the Spaniards captured many fortresses on the coast, creating enclaves of Spanish rule in the Muslim world. But the Spaniards managed to create a continuous strip of their possessions here only after 1912 . The Fez peace treaty of 1912 divided Morocco between Spain and France (most). At the same time, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla were not attributed to Spanish Morocco, since they were considered an integral part of Spain itself.
On August 18, 1926, in the city of Tetouan, the Moroccan vizier Moulay Hassan Bin Mahdi established the Order of Medaouya in five classes and a medal as a reward for services rendered to the state. Soon the order was among the Spanish awards.
In 1937, the order chain was added.
Since 1945, the Order has been extended to females.
With the attainment of Morocco’s independence in 1956 , the Order of Medawya was abolished.
