Prince Homburg ( Italian: Il principe di Homburg ) is a historical melodrama by Italian director Marco Bellocchio based on the drama Prince Frederick of Homburg by German playwright, poet and prose writer Heinrich von Kleist . The film premiered on May 8, 1997 at the Cannes Film Festival .

Content
Story
Daring young prince Homburg contrary to the orders of the commander attacks the Swedes. Despite the victory, the Elector of Brandenburg claims that the prince is a danger to the army and sentenced him to death. The prince, desperately clinging to life, begs for mercy upon him. However, having received a pardon, he changes his mind and decides that he deserves execution for his disobedience. Satisfied that the prince had matured, the Elector bestows on him the life and the hand of his niece Natalia.
