Biography
Katarina Gutenzon was born on March 22, 1966 in Kirchberg commune, Tirol , Austria . Seriously engaged in skiing from an early age, was trained in the local club SK Kirchberg.
In 1982 at the age of sixteen she joined the main team of the Austrian national team and made her debut in the World Cup. A year later, she visited the World Junior Championships in the Italian Sestriere, from where she brought bronze and silver dignity awards, won in the downhill and combinations, respectively.
In 1985, for the first time, she won the World Cup, becoming the best in the downhill at the stage in the American Wali. She performed at the World Championships in Bormio , where she became a silver medalist in the same discipline - shared second place with Swiss skier Ariana Erat , passing another Swiss player Michela Figini . The following season, she added three more victories in the World Cup.
In January 1987, during training, she broke a cruciate ligament and, due to an injury, was forced to miss almost the entire season, including refusing to go to the World Cup.
Having recovered from injury, she continued to compete in the World Cup since 1988, in many stages she was in the top ten, although she could not get on the podium. I tried to get selected for the 1989 World Cup in Vail , but because of too high competition in the team I could not do it. In the same year, she moved permanently to Oberaudorf and now decided to play for the German national team. There were no problems with obtaining citizenship, since at that time she was already married to a German.
Joining the German national team, Gutenson immediately began to show quite good results, in particular, already in the 1989/90 season, she won the small Crystal Globe in the downhill. Started at the world championship in Saalbach-Hintergleme , becoming the eighth in the downhill.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville - was close to being among the winners here, finishing sixth in the downhill race.
In 1993, as a result of a fall on a slope, she again suffered a serious injury, which led to a noticeable deterioration of its results. Nevertheless, she still managed to qualify for the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer , where she became the eighteenth in the downhill and sixth in the supergiant.
At the 1996 World Championships in Sierra Nevada, she took 15th place in the downhill and seventh in the supergiant. A year later, at similar competitions in Sestriere, she showed ninth and fifth results in the same disciplines, respectively.
Being among the leaders of the main alpine skiing team of Germany, it successfully passed the selection for the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano - this time it started exclusively in the downhill, being at the finish of the ninth. Soon after the end of this Olympiad, she decided to end her sports career, giving way to the team of young German skiers. For more than 15 years of summit performances, Gutenzon has a total of 18 times climbed the podium of various stages of the World Cup, including eight stages won. The highest position in the overall standings of all disciplines - 11th place (twice). Is, among other things, the double champion of Austria in alpine skiing.
After leaving the big sport, Gutenson continued to ski, trying himself in various less popular disciplines. In the end, she was fascinated by freestyle and devoted herself entirely to the popularity of ski cross . The results were not long in coming, and since 2005 she has already been in the Austrian national team for this sport, participated in world championships and world cup stages, in particular, has risen to the podium five times and won two stages. When ski cross was included in the program of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver , Katharina Gutenzon successfully qualified and eventually performed at this fourth Olympiad in her career, becoming the oldest freestyle player who came here - at that time she was already 44th year. Nevertheless, she had little chance of winning a medal - she took the final 26th place. After this Olympics, has finally completed a sports career.
Mother of three children. In 2013, she took part in the eighth season of the Austrian reality show “Dancing with the Stars” [1] .
