Nikolai Pavlovich Napalkov (July 28, 1932, Leningrad - March 22, 2008 [1] [2] [3] ) - Soviet and Russian oncologist. Academician of RAMS , Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1986; member since 1975), doctor of medical sciences, professor. Director of the N. N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology (1974-1989), subsequently honorary (since 1998). He was elected People's Deputy of the USSR. State Prize Laureate.

Biography
The son of a surgeon, Professor P. N. Napalkov (1900-1988), Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, who for many years headed the department at the Leningrad Sanitary and Hygienic Medical Institute; grandson of the surgeon professor N.I. Napalkov (1868-1938).
After graduating with honors from the Leningrad Sanitary and Hygienic Medical Institute (1956), he entered graduate school at the Oncology Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. From 1963 (to 1987) he was the head of the laboratory of experimental tumors founded by N. N. Petrov , from 1965 to 1971 he was deputy director for scientific work and in 1974-1989 he was director of the N. N. Petrov Research Institute of Oncology , at the same time he headed All-Union Scientific Society of Oncologists. In 1971-1974 headed the Department of Oncology, in 1989-1998 - General Assistant Director of the World Health Organization .
He defended his candidate and doctoral dissertations, became a professor of oncology. Member of the CPSU, delegate to the XXV Congress of the CPSU. WHO expert, IARC consultant.
He was the editor-in-chief of the journal “Questions of Oncology” (since 1974), as the successor to Academician A. I. Serebrov.
He was awarded the orders of the Red Banner of Labor (1981) and Friendship of Peoples (1986). Honorary Member of the Scientific Society of Oncologists of the Bulgarian People's Republic.
Author of more than 250 works, three monographs, editor and co-author of the Guide to General Oncology.
Among the famous students - Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.N. Anisimov , Napalkov's successor as head of the laboratory of experimental tumors.
