On May 14, 1943 , a German punitive detachment surrounded the village of Velikaya Lyubasha for the purpose of its destruction. The Germans began to burn houses and shoot the population of the village. They were attacked by two hundred of the UPA , a hundred of “Gypsy” under the direction of the centurion Tsinko Pavel Maksimovich and a hundred of “Storm” under the direction of the centurion Alexander Rezez , who were stationed at that time in the surrounding forests. A shootout ensued, in which the rebels burned 11 German cars and destroyed about 35 Wehrmacht soldiers. The losses of the rebels are unknown. As a result of the battle, the UPA fighters seized two boxes of grenades [3] [4] . After reinforcements from Hitler’s troops from Kostopol , the rebels retreated [5] .
