Suslov, Volt Nikolaevich

Biography

Suslov was born in a family where his father was a railwayman and his mother a doctor. The family lived on Vasilievsky Island in Leningrad. With the outbreak of World War II, Suslov remained in the city and survived the blockade of 1941-1942 . The writer subsequently embodied the memory of this in a book for children, Red Clouds. Soon he was about to mobilize in the army, and he himself wanted to go to the front, but the medical board refused him a call twice because of his short stature (137 cm).

In January 1944, after passing the medical examination again, Suslov was still allowed to go to the army. He came to the Leningrad Front. At first, he underwent combat training at the shooting range, but due to growth, it was unsuccessful. He was again sent to the medical board, after which he was enrolled in a training automobile regiment. In the spring of 1944, Suslov received driver license of the 3rd class. After this, Suslov went to the front. He served in a separate disinfection company No. 144; He headed the field camp bath, which was located on the chassis of the GAZ-AA lorry. The war ended in East Prussia. Then, at the front, Suslov joined the Communist Party.

After the war, the army graduated from 10 classes in evening school. Demobilized in 1950. After demobilization he entered the University of Leningrad, at the journalism department. The first two years he studied at the correspondence department, the next three years - full-time.

In 1954-1975 he was a literary officer and deputy editor of the journal Lenin Sparks . Over the years, many of his articles, feuilletons, and reports from school life have been published. He was also the editor-compiler of the magazine "Sparkle". Over time, he gained credibility in children's journalism. . He also collaborated with the Bonfire magazine. He co-authored with many composers wrote lyrics (a total of about 300 texts).

Suslov was elected secretary of the board of the Leningrad Writing Organization. He headed the section of children's and youth literature. He was awarded the title " Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR ".
