Android Pie

Android Pie [3] is the ninth version of the Android operating system . The first preview version of the system was released on March 7, 2018 [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] . The first beta version of the system was released on May 8, 2018 [9] , the second, third and fourth beta versions were released on June 6 [10] [11] [12] , 2 [13] and July 25, 2018, respectively [14] [15 ] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] .

The final version of Android 9.0 called Pie was released on August 6, 2018 for smartphones of the Google Pixel series [3] [23] [24] [25] [26] and for the smartphone [27] .

In August 2018, Google announced that it would release the Android Pie Go Edition in the fall, which is the lightweight version of Android Pie [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] .

As of May 2019, 10.4% of Android devices that register on Google Play launch Pie.

Features

Android Pie has the following features [33] [34] :

  • New user interface for quick settings menu [35] .
  • The clock has moved left in the notification panel [36] .
  • Dock now has a translucent background.
  • The battery saver is no longer displayed as an orange overlay in the notification and status bar.
  • Added a “Screenshot” button to the power settings.
  • A new lock mode that disables biometric authentication once.
  • Rounded corners in the user interface.
  • New transitions for switching between applications or actions in applications.
  • More complete message notifications where a full conversation can be received in notification, full-blown images and smart replies.
  • Screen cutout support.
  • Redesigned volume slider.
  • Experimental features (which are currently hidden in a menu called Feature Flags), such as a redesigned “About Phone” page in the settings, automatically turn on Bluetooth while driving, and so on.
  • DNS over TLS [37] .
  • HEIF support.
  • The new gesture-based system interface, moving the OS like on the iPhone X , has removed the home button and multitask button.
  • A redesigned, horizontal multi-tasking application switcher has appeared with a Google search bar and built-in app drawer.
  • The Digital Wellbeing feature prevents overuse of the phone.
  • Placing the phone face down will turn off notifications [38] .
  • An adaptive battery that maximizes battery power prioritizes applications that the user is likely to use next.
  • Improved adaptive brightness function that changes the brightness of the screen based on the user's personal preferences.
  • Always-On Display now hides notifications.
  • New back button in the navigation bar.
  • Manual selection of themes.
  • The lock icon for changing orientation can be seen in the notification panel.
  • The keyboard toggle button is displayed on the navigation bar when the keyboard is activated.
