Biography
Born in 1891 [1] in Chisinau in the family of Behr Hirsch-Shimonovich Yakhinson, a native of Shklov , and Sheindl Yakhinson. He had younger brothers Michl (1894), David (1896) and Noah (1901), the sisters of Livsh (1899) and Ruhl (1904), born there. During the First World War, he settled in Simferopol , where he was an activist in the local cell of the Socialist Jewish Labor Party and spoke in journalistic works in the local press, mainly with political commentaries [2] [3] [4] . He studied at teacher training courses in Grodno [5] .
In 1923-1924 he was a lecturer at the Higher Jewish teacher training courses in Kiev . Throughout the 1920s he published a number of journalistic works in Yiddish, under his editorship a series of books “פּאָפּולער-װיסנשאַפֿטלעכע ביבליִאָטעק” ( Popular Science Library ) was published.
In 1927, he was appointed head of the pedagogical section of the Institute of Jewish Proletarian Culture at the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kiev [6] . The pedagogical works of I. B. Yakhinson at that time were published mainly on the pages of the Kiev journal Ratnbildung ( Soviet education , in Yiddish ). He was the author or one of the authors of Yiddish school books and textbooks, which were subsequently subjected to ideological criticism, some even a censorship ban, as a result of which I. B. Yakhinson was forced to leave his job at the Institute of Jewish Proletarian Culture around 1934.
Until 1941, he worked as an editor-in-chief and director of the geographical center of the state publishing house "Radyanska shkola" in Kiev. He participated in the publication of books, maps, study guides and school textbooks on geography in the Russian and Ukrainian languages, published books on the history of agriculture, pedagogy, and the literary work The Age of Mendele (1927). With the start of World War II, he was evacuated with his wife to Baltakul ( Margelan district of the Ferghana region ).
Family
- Brother - Mikhail Borisovich (Mikhl Berkovich) Yakhinson (1894, Chisinau - 1942, Transnistria ), journalist and employee of a number of Yiddish periodicals, editor of the weekly "Jewish thought" in Odessa (1917), was deported to the ghetto and died [7] .
- His wife, Berta Isaakovna Yakhinson (1890–?), Was in charge of a kindergarten in Kiev [8] .
- Son - Boris Izrailevich Yakhinson (1917—?), Mathematician and electrical engineer.
