Breaking the television signal

This happened in the Polish city of Torun in September 1985 , when, during the evening news, many TV viewers had an anti-Soviet message on the screen: “Enough price increases, lies and repression! Solidarity, Torun. A couple of weeks later, viewers saw the second message: “Our duty is to boycott the elections”, ”and the Solidarity logo. The TV signal was hacked by Jan Hanas and three of his fellow astronomers who managed to get a real TV transmitter , connect it to the Sanyo computer and infiltrating on Torun TV screens. It happened at Jan’s apartment, the antenna was carried to the balcony. They didn’t notice the signal source for the first time, but after the second broadcast session with the astronomers they came in. Jan and his friends were arrested and charged with incitement elstve to public unrest. In 1986 they were tried year. However, taking into account the significant contribution of astronomers to science and the apparent crisis of the communist presence in the country, Yang and his colleagues have got off with a fine and a warning. Khanas also was demoted briefly suspended from work on his satellite project at the institute, but in 1987 he returned to his seat. [2]
