Biography

Born in 1896 in Moscow. Immediately after graduating from high school, he entered the Faculty of History and Philology of Moscow State University , which he graduated 5 years later, after which he attended a number of library courses and seminars. Since 1919 he worked in the field of librarianship. In 1932 he got a job at the Moscow State Library and the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute , where he taught library subjects until his death. He was one of the largest figures in the field of library science and a specialist in the field of mass library working techniques, and was also the founder of centralized cataloging in the USSR. He took an active part in library conferences and forums, where he repeatedly made presentations.

He died in 1971 in Moscow.

Scientific work

The main scientific works are devoted to the development of library catalogs. Author of over 60 scientific papers [1] , manuals and practical manuals. A number of scientific papers have been translated into foreign languages ​​and published abroad.

  • He wrote 7 articles on librarianship for the 2nd edition of TSB .
