Biography

Inga Tidblad was born in the family of engineer Otto Tidblad and Helga Tidblad (nee Krumlinde) [5] . Grew up in Stockholm . She studied at the acting school of the Royal Drama Theater from 1919 to 1922. In her student years she was already recognized as a rising star by both viewers and critics, for her debut performance of the role of Ariel in Shakespeare's play “The Storm ”, staged by Olof Mulander. After graduating from the theater school, she played at the Swedish Theater in Stockholm, where in 1924 she gained star status thanks to the role of Ophelia in Hamlet . Ingolf Schanke, who played the title role, was her partner in the play. The tidblad remained in the troupe until the fire of 1925, which forever destroyed the theater.

In 1956 she was awarded the Eugene O'Neill Prize. After completing a theatrical career, Tidblad several times returned to the stage and acted in films.

The actress's cinematic career includes early Swedish dumb films: Norrtullsligan (1923), Mälarpirater (1923), Farbror Frans (1926) and Svarte Rudolf 1928. Her debut film was Andersson, Pettersson och Lundström (1923). In 1930, she starred in the first Swedish sound film För hennes skull , where Jösta Ekman was her partner. Other significant screen appearances include roles in the films Sången om den eldröda blomman (1934), Intermezzo (1936), Lågor i dunklet (1942), Det brinner en eld (1943), Den osynliga muren (1944), Frånskild (1951, director Gustav Mulander , scriptwriter Ingmar Bergman ), Kvinnohuset (1953), Enhörningen (1955), Pärlemor (1961) and Pistolen (1973), for which Tidblad was awarded the Golden Beetle Award for Best Actress .

Tidblad also voiced Pinocchio in the Swedish dubbing of the Walt Disney cartoon " Pinocchio " (1940), and also in 1956 participated as a guest star in an episode of the early American series Foreign Intrigue .

She was married to actor Ragnar Bilberg from 1923 to 1930 [6] , and after his early death, with actor Hokan Westergren from 1931 until his death in 1975.
