Biography
Candidate of Philological Sciences (defended his thesis at Taras Shevchenko Kiev State University 06/21/1988). The academic title of associate professor in the department of methods of language and literature of the Ukrainian Pedagogical University. M.N. Drahomanova was awarded on May 26, 1994. The academic title of professor in the Department of Theory, History and Methods of Teaching Foreign Literature at Boris Grinchenko University of Kiev was awarded on 05/26/2011
The author of more than 250 scientific and methodological works on the problems of philology and literary education, in particular - monographs, textbooks and manuals for secondary and higher schools, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine . Yuri Kovbasenk, the head of the Tartu Semiotic School , professor Yuri Lotman , paid attention to the prospects of the analysis of literary text [2] .
Yuriy Kovbasenko also led the teams of authors of the draft State Standard in the field of literary education (1997) and national training programs on “Foreign (World) Literature” for secondary schools in Ukraine (1997, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2010, 2011), including those who won the All-Ukrainian competition of programs for 5-9th grades of a comprehensive school, as well as specialized 10-12th grades (2006, 2009). These documents are designed as organic components of the new Ukrainian curriculum of literary education.
He is the President of the Ukrainian Association of Teachers of Foreign Literature (UAZZL), which, since its founding (June 1994), has actively collaborated with the Creative Association of Translators ( Dmitry Cherednichenko ) of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine ( Yuriy Mushketik ) to provide a new one at that time (introduced in 1992- 1993) of the discipline “Foreign (World) Literature” with high-quality Ukrainian-language translations of world classics. In particular, the order of UAZZL Ukrainian was first translated by P. Calderon's philosophical drama “Life is a Dream” (from Spanish N. Litvinets), Knut Hamsun’s novel “Pan” and the novel “Death by Glany” (from Norwegian, G. Kirpa), psychological J. Joyce's essay “Giacomo Joyce” (from English, A. Mokrovolsky), sections of the novel by G. Fielding “The History of Tom Jones, Find” (from English, G. Dotsenko) and others. Editor-in-chief of the magazine “Theme. To help a teacher of foreign literature ”(1998-2003). Currently, cooperation with Ukrainian translators continues, contacts are established with the Creative Association of Translators of the Kiev organization of the Ukrainian NSP ( Vsevolod Tkachenko , see also: http://library.kubg.edu.ua/images/stories/Departaments/biblio/PDF/Kovbacenko_Layout % 201.pdf ).
Also, Yuri Kovbasenko is the author of textbooks on “Foreign Literature” ( “Literacy” Publishing House ), which became winners and laureates of All-Ukrainian textbook competitions: grades 5-8 (2005-2008, co-authored with L. Kovbasenko), 9th graders (2009) and 10-11th specialized classes (2010-2011). These textbooks are culturally oriented, they take into account both the Ukrainian experience of textbooks and productive foreign developments.
He teaches the main course "History of Foreign Literature" and the special course "Fiction through the Prism of Neomythologism" for students and undergraduates. Supervises graduate students, holds field workshops, seminars, thematic and problematic blitz courses with teachers of Ukrainian and Ukrainian literature.
He was the initiator of the UAVZL of the First All-Ukrainian competition “Teacher of Foreign Literature of the Rural School” and the examination “Methodist of Foreign Literature” (Kiev, 1997), as well as a member (Zhytomyr, 2001; Kherson, 2004), deputy chairman (Nikolaev, 2008) and head ( Poltava, 2011) jury of the IV (final) stage of the All-Ukrainian competition “Teacher of the Year” in the nomination “World Literature”.
He professes the credo: "... We do our own thing."
