History
By the middle of the 19th century, only a few decades after its foundation , Odessa became one of the main banking centers of the south of the Russian Empire. This was facilitated by the actively developing trade of the “ Southern Palmyra ”, first of all - grain exports. [one]
The beginning of the banking business in Odessa was money-changing shops, where, with the permission of the authorities, money was exchanged. Money changers came to the city from the Mediterranean countries along with merchants, salespeople , other business people and settled here firmly.
