The administrative center of the Kolenovsky rural settlement .
The population of 5.3 thousand people ( 2003 ) [2] . According to the 2002 census, 94.14% of the population are Russians, 3.10% are Ukrainians [2] .
Content
Geography
The village is located on the banks of the Elan River, east of the urban-type settlement Elan-Kolenovsky . This river is the right tributary of the Savala river. It flows in the Ternovsky, Gribanovsky, Talovsky and Novokhopersky districts of the Voronezh region [3] .
History
The village of Elan-Koleno was founded at the end of the XVII century [4] by immigrants from the cities of Efremov and Yelets . The name of the "knee" (bend of the channel) on the Elan River.
In the late XIX - early XX centuries, the village was the center of the Elan volost of the Novokhopyorsk district of the Voronezh province . From 1928 to 1963, the village was the center of the Yelan-Kolenovsky district of the Voronezh region [5] [6] [4] .
Economics
In the village there was the “Yelan-Kolenovskaya Carpet Factory” [7] , on the territory there was a state farm for breeding calves “Friendship” and a state farm for breeding cattle “Victory”. After the collapse of the USSR, enterprises ceased to exist.
Culture
In the Elan-Kolen, the Elan-Kolenovskaya special (correctional) general boarding school for orphans works [8] [9] .
A sports ground has been built on the basis of a rural high school. The Yelan football team became the silver medalist of the 2008 All-Russian tournament for the prize of the Leather Ball club [10] .
Attractions
In the village is the Church of the Resurrection, built in 1914.
