Moldovan telephone numbering plan

Telephone numbers of the Republic of Moldova in the international format (for dialing to them from outside the country) have a fixed length and consist of 11 digits.

For all non-local calls, you need to dial the prefix 0 , then - the area code or mobile operator code and subscriber number .

For calls to international numbers, dial the prefix 00 , country code, city code , and subscriber number .

For calls to short numbers , dial the number without prefixes and codes.

On February 1, 2004, a new national numbering plan ^[1] came into force in Moldova and at the same time the old one was terminated. According to this plan, some changes were made in regional telephone codes, as well as codes of two mobile operators: Orange (at that time Voxtel) and Moldcell .

On July 1, 2012, Moldova switched to a closed telephone numbering plan. ^{[2] [3]} Thus, all telephone numbers within the country have a single format, regardless of where the call is made from. For example, to call to Balti you need to dial:

  0 231 xxxxx from any telephone number in Moldova. 
 +373 231 xxxxx from outside of Moldova.

1 - Short Non-Geographic Telephone Numbers

Short telephone numbers in Moldova are numbers used for various services. All short numbers are not associated with the region in which they are used and are non-geographical. These phone numbers from any mobile or fixed number in the country are dialed without a code and have a unique format. They can be three-, four- or five-digit. Access to such numbers from outside the country is not possible.

From February 1, 2012, dialing to all short numbers is carried out without dialing the prefix 0 and they have a unique format.

On the territory of the Republic of Moldova there are alternative fixed-line telecom operators. They have a separate range of numbers, starting at 8 .

For Chisinau, the number is in the format 8x xx xx, for other cities - 8 xx xx.

Cities where there are alternative operators are Chisinau , Balti , Ungheni , Ocnita and Bessarabka .

National telephony operator Moldtelecom launched a project to provide fixed-line communications via CDMA- based radio access.

There is a separate range for these numbers starting at 9 .

For Chisinau, the number is in the format 9z xx xx, for other cities - 9 zx xx, where z is any number from 2 to 9 and x is from 0 to 9.

This service is available throughout the Republic of Moldova .
