Tombstone at the grave of Mart Reinstern in Stockholm

Marta Elena Reinstern was born on September 16, 1753. She was the daughter of Lieutenant Abraham Reenstierna and Katharina Maria von Köhler. June 6, 1775 she married the captain of the cavalry Christian Henry von Schnell (Christian Henrik von Schnell, 1733-1811). In the family from 1776 to 1787, eight children were born. However, only her one son, Hans Abraham (Hans Abraham, 1780-1812), lived to adulthood.

Arsta began writing her diary in 1793, which explains their lack of notes regarding the first eighteen years of her marriage.

Arsta had a relatively large estate on whose lands she grew tobacco . She was widowed in 1811, a year later she lost her son, who crashed after falling from a horse. After this tragedy, Arsta lost interest in the household, her sibling took up it.

Arsta wrote her diary until 1839, until she lost her sight. The diary of the writer depicts the daily life of people of all classes in her estate and surroundings. She describes in detail agricultural work, animal care, weather, holidays, etc. The diary shows the author's interest in literature and theater. In Arst's diary, she focuses not on her own thoughts, but on a description of facts, historical events.

Marta Elena Reinstern died on January 12, 1841 in Stockholm, in 1969 she became the hero of the historical novel På Årstafruns tid of the writer Lars Widding.
