Club career

Tim Borowski began playing football in the children's team of his hometown, Neubrandenburg 04, which in the early 1990s played very successfully at the German Children's Championship [4] . In 1996, Borowski moved to the Bremen “ Werder Bremen ” football school [5] . In 1999, Tim became a player in the Werder II reserve team, which played in the North Regional League , where he showed himself well in two seasons and was transferred to the main team. On July 14, 2001, Borowski first played in the official match for Werder Bremen. It was the Intertoto Cup match against the Belgian Ghent , to which he entered the main squad, spent 90 minutes on the field and scored an assist [6] . On August 18, 2001, Tim made his debut in the Bundesliga , replacing his match with the 1860 Munich Club [7] .

In the 2003/2004 season, when Werder Bremen won the championship and the German Cup , Borowski was already a full-fledged player in the main team in the team of Thomas Schaaf . In the following seasons, Werder also performed very successfully, taking second and third places in the German championship, reached the 1/8 finals of the Champions League in 2006. The 2005/2006 season turned out to be the most successful for Tim in terms of personal statistics, in 31 matches of the Bundesliga he scored 10 goals and 11 assists, and in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League he scored a goal against Juventus [8] .

Back in January 2008, Borowski reached an agreement with Bavaria that in the summer, when his contract with Werder Bremen expired, he would transfer as a free agent to the Munich club. The leadership of the “Bremen” suggested Tim to sign a new contract, but he refused [9] . In “Bavaria” Borowski spent only one season, in which he played a total of 35 matches and scored 7 goals, but could not become a full-fledged player in the main squad, due to the high competition for the position of the central midfielder [10] . In addition, the initiator of the acquisition of Borowski was coach Jürgen Klinsmann , who worked with Tim in the German national team, and who replaced Klinsmann, Louis van Gaal, did not see a place for the player in his team [11] .

In the summer of 2009, Borowski returned to Werder Bremen, with whom he signed a contract for three years with the possibility of extension for another year [11] . In the 2010/2011 season, Tim repeatedly injured his ankle, which is why he missed a lot of games in the German championship [12] . In 2011-2012, he almost did not play for the Werder Bremen due to injuries. In the summer of 2012, the player’s contract with the club ended, and the Werder Bremen leadership did not propose to Tim a new agreement. In September 2012, 32-year-old Borowski officially announced the end of his gaming career [13] .
