Biography

Kurt Connors was born in Coral Gables, Florida . He was a talented surgeon who enlisted in the US Army and was sent to war. As a field doctor, Connors performed surgical operations on the battlefield, helping soldiers until he was seriously injured in his right arm by an explosion. Soon the arm had to be amputated . After returning to civilian life as a technology researcher, Connors became obsessed with the idea of revealing the secrets of limb regeneration in reptiles. While at his home in the Everglades , with the help of his friend Ted Sollis, he finally developed an experimental serum taken from reptile DNA. Connors successfully repaired the injured paw of a rabbit and a white mouse, and then decided to test the serum on himself. As a result of the experiment, he really managed to grow his right hand, however, the drug had a side effect - Connors mutated into Raptor Man . Peter Parker discovered it during his trip to Florida, investigating the history of the Lizard for his newspaper. Using Connors notes, Spider-Man was able to create a serum that returned Dr. Connors to a human form and restored his mind. Another attempt to develop this serum for safe use again led to the transformation of Connors into the Lizard, but this time he was saved thanks to his former colleague Professor Charles Xavier and his first line -up , the X-Men , the Beast and the Archangel tracked the Lizard in the swamps and the Iceman loaded hibernating him long enough to find a cure [2] .

Kurt Connors later moved to New York . He was able to thank Spider-Man by developing a drug that saved May Parker’s life after she received a strong dose of radiation from a blood transfusion from Peter Parker. [3] Later it became clear that Connors' cure for the mutation in the Raptor was short-lived. With very strong nervous tension, Connors mutated again into a reptile. Spider-Man fought with him and then used the serum to turn Connors back into man for a while. The second personality, formed by the Lizard, has virtually nothing to do with Kurt. The lizard seeks to create a world in which all people are turned into lizard people, the same as himself. Nevertheless, despite his hatred of people, he repeatedly proved his unwillingness to harm his wife Martha and his little son Billy.

Like Connors, he helped Spider-Man defeat the Rhino by developing a formula that corrodes Reno's costume. But during the experiments, under the influence of chemicals, Kurt again turned himself into a Lizard. However, Spider-Man managed to return Kurt to a human face. [4] Later, Connors was abducted and forced to participate in the creation of anti-aging serum for Gray-haired . [5] The nervous, great stress caused by these events led to the next transformation of Connors into the Lizard. In the guise of the Lizard, he fought Spider-Man and the Torch -Man. Then Spider-Man again returned to him the human face of Kurt. [6]

During the next meeting with Spider-Man after Peter's attempts to get rid of four hands that had grown , Morbius ' bite infected the Lizard, with Connors' personality, as an alien infection. Connors created the antidote for himself and Spider-Man using Morbius enzymes . [7] Kurt Connors later assisted Spider-Man, Ka-Zar and Black Panther in the fight against Stagran . [8] Later, the Lizard battled Spider-Man and Stagran after the latter abducted Billy Connors. [9] All this time, Peter Parker worked as a scientific assistant to Dr. Connors, although he does not even realize that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. [10] [11]

At the beginning of Secret Wars, the Lizard refused to side with either side of the conflict. Although the Lizard was called up for war along with other super-villains, he separated from the main group after the first battle and settled in a swamp, where he made friends with Wasp , who helped him heal the wounds received in the battle. After the Lizard cursed the Enchanter's magic, then returned to Kurt's human form. [12] After Connors returned, his wife took Billy's son and moved out of Kurt. The Lizard was apparently affected by spatial teleportation, since Connors in his mind subjugated the Lizard and fought against the Owl along with Spider-Man. [13] However, the mystical activity that manifested itself in the Inferno crisis ( Inferno crisis ), again released the brutal nature of the Lizard, as a result of which Spider-Man again had to cure Connors of the mutation. [14] Then Connors tried to establish his life and take control of the Lizard, in which he achieved some success. These endeavors were interrupted when Calypso used voodoo magic to use the Lizard for her own criminal purposes. After a series of bloody battles, Calypso and the Lizard were defeated by Spider-Man. [15] After some time, Connors again gained control of the body and mind of the Lizard, although very fragile. Kurt was able to temporarily heal himself [16] , after which he voluntarily went to jail for super-villains. [17] When Calypso again transformed Connors into the Lizard with voodoo magic and tried to enslave him, the Lizard killed her and escaped from prison. After escaping, the Lizard landed in quicksand, fighting Spider-Man, and seemed to die. [18] However, it soon became clear that the rumors of his death were exaggerated.

Clone Lizard and Lizard Return

Shortly after Connors seemed to drown in quicksand, the huge Lizard reappeared. [19] Spider-Man ( Ben Reilly ) realized that the Lizard did not just survive, but completely subjugated Connors identity, leaving no chance for a reverse human transformation. However, when this crazy Lizard unexpectedly ran into a real Doctor Connors, Kurt transformed into a Lizard, and, saving his family, he completely destroyed the Clone Lizard. As it turned out, the Clone Lizard accidentally arose during tests of the serum developed by Connors. The drug remaining on the tail of the studied lizard provoked the transformation of the limb of the reptile into a full-fledged Lizard. [20]

Martha Connors Death and

Although the Connors family reunited after the events, it was still far from calm. This time the tragedy occurred with Martha and Billy. Both mother and son were diagnosed with cancer - the result of the influence of the Monano Laboratory, located next to the Connors home in Florida. Spider-Man helped Kurt get Monano to plead guilty. However, Martha died from cancer. [21] Fortunately, Billy was cured of cancer. Kurt's sense of guilt for everything that happened and anger at his fate soon provoked a new transformation into a Lizard and a battle with Spider-Man. After returning to his original human form, Kurt attempted to rob a bank in order to end up in jail. [22] However, this imprisonment was very short-lived. He was released from prison and turned into a Lizard by the great efforts of Norman Osbourne, who is the Green Goblin . Osborn needed the lizard to create the " Evil Dozen " - a group of super-villains assembled to destroy Spider-Man. The members of the Sinister Dozen were defeated and arrested by the combined efforts of Daredevil , the Fantastic Four and some Avengers . [23]

After the Civil War, Dr. Kurt Connors helped Spider-Man develop drugs for the victims of Calvin Zabo, known as Mr. Hyde . [24] Dr. Connors also investigated the progress of Komodo , a student who stole a serum sample that turned Kurt Connors into a Lizard. Komodo, having modified the drug, healed its amputated legs and, in addition, gained the power of a reptile. [25]

Brand New Day

Kurt Connors also appeared on the pages of the Brand New Day comic book. Connors conducted stem cell experiments and also assisted Carly Cooper . [26]

Lose Skin

Alexandra Kravinova is abducted by Madame Web, who pronounces a prophecy that Connors will turn into a Lizard, but love for her son will allow Curtis to defeat the monster. Alexandra instructs her son Alexei to influence the situation, and he, in turn, orders his sister Anna to “feed” the Lizard. Meanwhile, Connors, having quarreled with his superiors and having lost the opportunity to regain custody of Billy, as was predicted, again turns into a Lizard. The Lizard wants to gain constant control over his body, for which he decides to kill Billy Connors, since Kurt during his unsuccessful visit to Billy had the imprudence to say that the fact that he was losing his son was killing him. After a little battle with Spider-Man near the Connors house, the Lizard leaves. Meanwhile, Anna Kravinova mortally wounds a social worker, kidnaps Billy and leaves him to be torn to pieces by the Lizard. Billy sees a monster approaching him, but does not try to escape and first begs his father not to do what he came for, but, realizing that this does not help, he calmly says in the face to Lizard that he always knew that he would kill him. The pangolin brutally kills Billy Connors, thereby killing (as it was not completely clear later) Kurt's mind, and then degenerating into a new, even more terrible form. The reptile gets all the knowledge of Connors, as well as the opportunity to release the other Lizards sitting inside each person. Using new opportunities, the Lizard releases all the Lizards of the city. Spider-Man is trying to get Connors back, but the Lizard only laughs at him, saying that Connors is dead, and then sends angry people at his opponent. Spider-Man tries in vain to confront them, but people tear his suit and break the cobwebs. However, the Lizard sees the photo of Billy Connors brought by Spider-Man, and a conscience hitherto unknown to him wakes up. The lizard takes Spider-Man to the roof, where, unable to endure unfamiliar feelings, it tries to make Spider-Man admit that the murder of Billy Connors was a correct and, moreover, a strong idea. But suddenly, the Lizard sees an airliner flying over the city, and for the first time realizing that he had never seen such a thing before, realizes that Connors was someone very important to him. Unable to endure mental pain, the Lizard runs away, returning all the inhabitants of New York to their former consciousness. But some people still leave after the Lizard to the sewers, considering the Lizard's path attractive.

No turning back

The living vampire Michael Morbius, hoping to become a man again, invents a cure and decides to first test it on the Lizard. To do this, he digs up the body of Billy Connors and, on the basis of it, adapts the medicine to the Lizard. He and Spider-Man are fighting a mutant, who simultaneously tells them that not one of the people who came to him could take the path of the Lizard, as a result of which he simply ate them. As a result, Morbius and the staff of Horizon Labs use the invention of Morbius on the Lizard - harpoons filled with medicine that restore his human appearance. But they do not know that they did not return Connors, and the body of the Lizard still owns the body. The pangolins are taken to the Horizon Labs building, where he successfully pretends that the medicine worked. To get Morbius out of the game, the Lizard releases a pair of blood into the ventilation, as a result of which Michael does not stand up and bites one of the Horizon Labs employees and future opponent of Peter Parker, Sajani. Enraged by betrayal, Spider-Man chases after Morbius, while the Lizard tries in every possible way to regain its former shape, for which it repeatedly reconstructs the mutagenic serum and tests it on the staff of Horizon Labs, to which it claims to have various pretexts. But the serum does not work as it should and, ironically, it only does what Connors went to risky experiment for at the time - he grows the Lizard's lost arm, which he has to cut off with a gas burner over and over again. In addition, the Lizards begin to pursue unpleasant hallucinations - instead of the geek boy who also works for Horizon Labs, he constantly sees Billy Connors killed by him. As a result, after talking with him and the party in a computer game, the Lizard manages to reproduce a serum that can overcome the effect of the Morbius drug. But the Lizard liked to be a man, and he does not dare to introduce himself a mutagen, trying to understand whether this is what he wants. Carly Cooper meets the Lizard, but understands that something is wrong, because the Lizard in a hurry cut off his wrong hand. At that moment, the Horizon Labs employee working for Kingpin is sabotaging the security system and accidentally releasing all of the laboratory staff turned by Lizard into reptiles. Spider-Man appears to defeat Morbius, and wants to start a battle with the dinosaurs, but they do not show any aggression to humans. Sajani says this is natural, because humans and lizards are not natural enemies. Spider-Man hears a warning shot made by Carly Cooper and hurries to her. There he tells her what he heard from Sajani. But Carly reminds him that the Lizard has been trying to kill him all these years. Then Spider-Man turns to the Lizard and tells him that maybe he was wrong, and the real dark side was Kurt Connors himself, angry that he had lost his right hand, his wife, and then his son. But it's too late. The lizard, not wanting to be in prison, introduces a mutagen into the stump of the left hand and begins to rapidly mutate. Spider-Man realizing that after the mutation, the Lizard will be able to telepathically control all mutated employees, grabs it, breaks it into the wall and throws the Lizard into the street. There the Lizard mutates into its final, completed form. Spider-Man is fighting him, but the Lizard is now several times stronger. Spider-Man decides to inject the last dose of Morbius medicine into the Lizard brain, into its reptilian part. But the Lizard cleverly evades all attempts to do this. The battle takes place on the pier, the Lizard has every opportunity to escape, but he does not want to do this. Judging by the dialogues, having lost his mind, he accuses Spider-Man of having no idea what he forced him to do. The pangolin always considered itself better than people, but only becoming one of them, he realized how wrong he was. After all, people are available sensations and emotions inaccessible to reptiles. But now, since the repeated mutation into a person is already absolutely impossible, the Lizard forever lost all this splendor. Enraged, the Lizard promises to kill all those present at the marina, but suddenly he begins to hallucinate again. Instead of the woman he was about to kill, he sees Connors's long-dead wife, Martha. The lizard raises its eyes and sees that all the women present on the pier became Marta Connors, and all the children - the son of Connors killed by him - Billy. The Lizard cannot bear this sight and turns to Spider-Man, instead of whom Kurt Connors seems to be. Spider-Man says that part of the Lizard wants him to finish everything, and therefore makes him see his enemy as a one-armed man who "has nothing to hide." Taking advantage of the fact that the Lizard does not see the harpoon with the medicine clamped in his right hand, Spider-Man sticks the harpoon in the head of the Lizard, which screams and falls. However, the medicine is powerless in front of the new form of the Lizard and only deprives him of consciousness. Horrified by what he did, Spider-Man is trying to bring the Lizard to his senses, to which the monster says with all his might “You lost ... Not a man ...” The Lizards are taken to the Raft super-strict prison. Spider-Man visits him, after which, making sure that everything is fine with him, leaves. However, he does not know and finds out only a few hours before his own death in the story arc “Dying Wish” that the medicine did work, restoring Connors identity. Now Connors is locked in the body of the Lizard. But Kurt decides not to tell anyone about this, believing that this is a punishment for everything he did as a Lizard. His last words in the comic are: “This is my Hell. And I deserve it. ”

Using Spider-Man DNA and Venom particles, based on an analysis of his old friend Richard Parker, Connors inadvertently created Karnage's super-villain. Due to the turmoil, the doctor was arrested and Stark Industries canceled its financial support for the experiments, but Connors assistant Ben Reilly received another Parker DNA sample, setting the stage for subsequent experiments. The lizard in one form or another is present in almost all the animated series dedicated to Spider-Man.

  • In the 1994 animated series Spider-Man , voiced by Joseph Campanella. The pangolin first appears in the Night Lizard series and is quite active in the series. Here he is portrayed as a genius, but as in the comics, he is sometimes wild. In his first appearance, Dr. Connors transforms into a Lizard after experimenting with a lizard to grow his right arm. He abducts his wife Margaret to finish the experiment of turning the people of New York into the same freaks as he himself. However, Spider-Man defeats him. Kurt Connors appeared in subsequent episodes, but as a friend and ally of Spider-Man. In the “Time Plate” series, he again turns briefly into the Raptor. In the series “Unquenchable Time” and “The Last Neogene Nightmare,” Kurt turns into the Raptor twice for a short while. In the series "The Obsession of Mary Jane Watson," the Lizard appears in the form of a robot. In the episode “King of the Lizards,” it becomes known that the doctor’s chemicals were drained, and as a result, these substances mutated into small lizards, turning them into as smart and powerful as Kurt himself. After that, they look for him, thinking that he is their king and creator. Kurt Connors turns into a Lizard and becomes the king of the lizards. Margaret and Mary Jane are looking for Debra Whitman to create a cure for turning into lizards, and she succeeds. Cinema

  • In the Sam Raimi trilogy, Dr. Connors was played by Dylan Baker . He appears in the second and third films, but only as a person. Unlike comics, in films he is a physicist, and his family is not mentioned. He appreciates the abilities of Peter, but during most of the second film he condemns him for low marks (which, however, then stops). In the third film, he reveals to Peter the properties of the symbiote Venom.

Raptor in the movie "The New Spider-Man "
  • In the Connors / Lizard Relaunch movie, Rhys Evans plays [27] [28] . He is the main antagonist of the film, a longtime friend and colleague of Peter's father, Richard Parker. When Peter begins his own investigation into the disappearance of his parents, he goes to Connors. He helps Kurt complete the regeneration formula that Connors and Richard worked on together. Kurt decides to test it on a laboratory rat, and as a result, one foot grows. Although it is possible that the formula has not yet been finalized, Kurt’s colleague, Dr. Rajit Ratha, wants to conduct her human test to see if it is effective, as it will then cure Norman Osborn’s fatal illness. Then Connors introduces the formula to himself, and his right hand grows. However, then it begins to mutate and as a result becomes a Lizard. He is obsessed with the idea of turning the entire city into himself of similar lizards, considering people to be insignificant demented creatures, for which he decides to spray a gas mutagen around the city with the help of a device known as the Ganali Apparatus. Spider-Man and captain George Stacy, who sided with the super hero, stop the Lizard in time, replacing the mutagen with an antidote, which turns Connors back into a man, but before that, the Lizard kills captain Stacy. Feeling guilty for his crimes, Connors voluntarily surrenders to the police. In the scene after the credits, a mysterious man asks Connors about Peter’s father, but Kurt reports that the super-hero is not up to date. Dr. Connors is also mentioned in the sequel to the film.
