Shozo Tanaka ( Jap. 田中 正 造, た な か し ょ う ぞ う ; 1841 - 1913 ) is a Japanese politician and environmentalist .

Born in Tochigi Prefecture .
In 1890 he was elected to the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan . He took part in the investigation of cases of water poisoning in the vicinity of the Asio mine . In 1901 , he resigned deputy powers and directly filed a complaint with the Emperor about the actions of the owners of the Asio mines . Subsequently, he protested against the industrial flooding of the village of Yanaka . At the end of his life he dealt with the issues of irrigation and water supply .
