Biography
Gunnar Erdtman was born on November 18, 1897.
Erdtman systematically studied pollen morphology and developed the acetolysis method for its study. In 1921, he published the dissertation "Pollenanalytische Untersuchungen von Torfmooren und marinen Sedimenten in Südwest-Schweden" [3] in German, thanks to which he became famous outside of Scandinavia . Erdtmann's textbook, An introduction to pollen analysis [4], contributed to the development of palynology . In 1948, he set up a palynological laboratory at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm . He headed the laboratory until 1971, since 1954 with the title of professor.
He died on February 18, 1973.
