Pyatras Babitskas ( lit. Petras Babickas ; April 29, 1903 , village Laukmaniškiai-Virbališkiai ( Laukminiškiai [1] ), now Kupiski district of Lithuania - August 27, 1991 [1] , Rio de Janeiro ) - Lithuanian poet , prose writer, publicist; brother of the Lithuanian military leader Kazis Babickas and actress Una Babitskaite-Greichünene .

Biography
During World War I , he was evacuated with his parents in Petrograd , where he began to study at the gymnasium. He graduated from high school in Panevezys ( 1923 ). In 1923 - 1930 he studied at the University of Kaunas, Lithuania . He worked as a teacher in Jurbarkas ( 1925 - 1926 ). In 1926 - 1931 he was the first announcer of the Lithuanian Radio in Kaunas , which began broadcasting on June 12, 1926 . For some time he was the director of the Kaunas Radio Background, as the Lithuanian radio station was called.
He also acted as a photographer and photo artist - published photographs with short correspondence in newspapers and magazines, and issued photo albums. It is considered one of the founders of Lithuanian art photography. In December 1932, organized the first solo exhibition of art photography in Lithuania (over 300 photographs). On January 15, 1933, together with like-minded people, he established the Lithuanian Amateur Association and participated in its activities. He founded and edited the magazine "Amateur photographer" ( "Foto mėgėjas" ; two issues were published in 1933 and 1934 ), took part in the organization of the magazine "Gallery" ( "Galerija" ), dedicated to photography.
Since 1933, the director of the State Theater in Kaunas. He edited the magazine “Musu Vilnius” ( “Mūsų Vilnius” , Russian. “Our Vilnius”). On his initiative, during the German occupation in Kaunas, the Museum of Red Terror was organized in the building of the Vytautas the Great War Museum. With the approach of the Soviet army in 1944, he left Lithuania for Germany . From 1946 he lived in Rome , then moved to Canada . In 1949 he moved to Brazil and settled in Rio de Janeiro . In 1950 - 1965 he worked at the Embassy of the Independent Republic of Lithuania in Brazil as a secretary, head of the department of culture, and press attaché. Since 1958, on the radio of Rio de Janeiro, he conducted weekly hourly broadcasts in Portuguese “Voice of Lithuania”. When the embassy was closed in 1965, Petras Babickas, who was left without a livelihood, moved to his brother in the United States .
He was buried in a Catholic cemetery in Rio de Janeiro. In 2006, he was reburied at the Pyatrashyun cemetery in Kaunas.
Creativity
Since 1921 he collaborated in the Lithuanian press. Participated in the newspaper Literaturos Naujienos ( Literatūros naujienos , Russian Literary News), the weekly journal Naujoji Romuva (Russian Nova Romuva), the magazine Vairas ( Vairas , Russian. "Steering Wheel") and other publications. The first collection of poems “Geltona ir juoda” (“Yellow and Black”, 1930 ). He wrote short stories (collection “Vakar” , that is, “Yesterday”, 1931 ), travel essays, and books for children. He published several collections of poems in exile.
He collaborated in the Lithuanian émigré magazine Aidai (Echo), and wrote articles on Portuguese and Brazilian literature for the Lithuanian Encyclopedia in Boston.
Several poems by Pyatras Babitskas were translated into Russian by K. D. Balmont , who maintained friendly relations with his sister actress Une Babitskaite-Greichünene .
