Creation History
In the early 1930s, a long-range bomber was being developed in France and Great Britain , which was supposed to be used to strike targets in the enemy's rear lines. These bombers were supposed to have less mass and bomb load and several times greater radius of action. A number of such aircraft were brought to the level of entry into service ( Vickers Wellsley ).
Two similar aircraft were built in the USSR: ANT-36 (DB-1) and ANT-37 (DB-2). But they were not taken into service due to low speed and weak weapons. Instead, medium-sized DB-3 bombers were adopted.
When creating the ANT-25, it was envisaged the creation of a long-range bomber and reconnaissance base on its base. With a bomb load of 1000 kg, its radius of action was supposed to be 2000 km at a cruising speed of 200 km / h. Of these characteristics, the priority was the requirement for flight range, and the second most important was the bomb load.
In August 1933, a design and layout of a long-range bomber were prepared, which was assigned the internal designation ANT-36 (official - DB-1). The project was immediately accepted by the customer. At plant number 18, the construction of the aircraft began. The first series was to be 24 cars, and their total number - 50 cars.
The military version retained the design of the airframe, power plant and cockpit layout from the prototype. In the bomb bay were to be placed 10 bombs weighing 100 kg. The cockpits of the second pilot and navigator housed machine guns. The bomber was to be equipped with an aerial camera. In 1934, the plane went into series. The aircraft had a smooth skin and a full set of bomber and machine gun weapons.
The first aircraft was tested in the fall of 1935, but the customer refused to accept it due to poor workmanship. Plant number 18 produced 18 aircraft of this type, of which 10 were transferred to operation. In 1937, all DB-1 aircraft were mothballed.
In the summer of 1936, an AN-1 diesel engine was installed on one of the aircraft of this series. The bomber was different from other aircraft of this type with a fixed gear landing gear with fairings. Tests that have been conducted since June 1936 have shown reliable engine operation and the possibility of a significant increase in flight range.
