Biography

Early years

Born in Stockholm in the family of businessman Oscar Dellert and Elizabeth Dellert (née Blomqvist, in his second marriage, Askell) [4] .

Singer's Career

She began her career as a vocalist in 1948 on American radio, winning the Arthur Godfrey talent competition in New York. Dellert sang the song Someone to Watch Over Me [5] [6] .

She made her debut on the opera stage in 1951 on the Stora Teatern stage in Gothenburg , performing the part in the operetta of Jacques Offenbach's “Beautiful Elena”. From the mid-1950s to the 1970s, she mostly performed at the Royal Opera in Stockholm , performing parties in operas, including Puccini's Tosca and Karl-Birger Blumdal's Aniare (1959) [7] .

Dellert also acted as the organizer and producer of several performances on special occasions, for example, a show commissioned by the Riksdag on the stage of the Stockholm Opera in 1976, dedicated to the wedding of King Carl Gustav and Queen Sylvia (at this concert ABBA performed the song Dancing Queen for the first time, and Dellert herself performed the song O, min Carl Gustafa ) [8] . In honor of her 50th birthday, Dellert organized a revue on the Södra Teatern stage in 1975 [9] .

In 1981, Dellert became director of the Confidencen Theater in Ulriksdal Palace. In 1979, she officially left the Royal Opera, but remained on stage until the mid-1990s. In 2005, Dellert appeared in the role of Maria Callas in the play Master Class based on the play by Terrence McNally, staged at the Confidencen and Lorensbergsteatern scenes in Gothenburg, receiving positive reviews from critics [10] .

In the film directed by Gustav Edgren's “Beautiful Elena” (1951), Dellert dubbed Eva Dalbeck in opera parts. She also participated in the 1972 Melodifestivalen with the song Kärlek behöver inga ord , finishing in fourth place.

Death

On Christmas Eve 2016, she suffered a stroke [11] .

Dellert died on March 5, 2018 at the age of 92. [12]

Family

From 1947 to 1966 she was married to Karl-Olaf Berg ( Swede. Carl-Olof Bergh ) [13] . The only son is Totte Dellert ( Swede. Thotte Dellert ), a Swedish artist and actor [14] . From 1968 she was married to Niels-Oka Heggbom ( Swede. Nils-Åke Häggbom ), a ballet dancer and ballet director of the Royal Ballet from 1986 to 1993.
