Description
Heterotallic (dioecious) species. The colonies on potato-dextrose agar are whitish, becoming yellowish and smoky gray as they mature. Sporangiophores (often referred to as conidiophores, as they carry mono-spore sporangiols) aseptic, 16-22 microns thick, dichotomously or corymbose branched; each twig ends with a wide-club-shaped or almost spherical bloating up to 50 microns in diameter (lateral - up to 30 microns). Sporangioles are spherical or almost spherical, formed on very short sterigmoid processes on these swellings, finely prickly (rarely smooth), 10-14 microns in diameter.
Chlamydospores are formed in substrate mycelium, rare, of various shapes.
Zygospores 30-80 microns in diameter, spherical or slightly flattened, warty. Suspensions are usually almost equal, 20-25 microns long and 10-20 microns across, smooth, unpainted.
