Johnny Mandel ( born Johnny Mandel , real name is John Alfred Mandel ; November 23, 1925 , New York City , New York ) is an American arranger and film composer . He wrote music for almost 200 films and television series . Winner of the Oscar for the best song for the film ( 1966 ).

Biography

Mandela's mother, Hannah, was an opera singer. Having discovered absolute hearing in a five-year-old boy, his parents sent him to a music school. Initially, the boy studied piano, but later began to play wind instruments - trumpet and trombone.

He studied at the Manhattan and Juilliard School of Music . During the Second World War he played the trumpet in ensembles. In 1949, accompanied by June Christy as a musician for the Bob Cooper Orchestra.

He accompanied and collaborated with Frank Sinatra , Peggy Lee , Barbra Streisand , Tony Bennett and many others.

The author of numerous soundtracks for films and series, wrote a huge number of songs, the most famous of which is The Shadow of Your Smile ( Russian “Shadow of your smile” ). In the USSR, this song, translated by Mark Podberezsky, was performed and recorded by Emil Horovets .

Winner of the Grammy Award for Best Pop Song Arrangement (1981) from Quincy Jones 's Velas album.

Married, has a daughter.
