Biography
He was born on May 31, 1942 in Drobak, in the commune of Frogn , in the Akershus county [2] .
In 1967 he received a diploma of a candidate of theology, graduating from the , and in 1969 a diploma in practical theology.
From 1968 to 1972 he worked as an assistant abbot in the parish in Oslo, and from 1972 to 1974 - as a lecturer in the diaconal organization . From 1973 to 1975 he was the secretary of the pastoral trade union .
In 1975, he was elevated to the rank of pastor at the in Oslo , and in 1976 at Westfall (until 1979). From 1976 to 1998, he edited the church publication Luthersk Kirketidende.
In 1981 to 1984, he served as rector of the seminary of practical theology at the Norwegian Theological School, from 1994 to 1998 he taught at the school as a professor.
In 1998 he was elected to be ordained Bishop Agder (in 2005 the name of the diocese was changed to Agder and Telemark). In 2006, he was elected chairman of the Episcopal Conference of the Church of Norway for a four-year term [3] .
In 2012, retired. He was married, but his wife Anne Catherine Shevesland died in 2009 [4] .
