History
The city was founded in the XVIII century. Ahilia Bai, the daughter-in-law of the head of the Kholkar dynasty, Malhar Rao . For a long time was the capital of the principality of the same name .
Geography and climate
Indore is located in the western part of Madhya Pradesh at the confluence of the Kham and Saraswati rivers. The city is spread out on a flat plateau at an altitude of about 550 meters above sea level, from the south it is limited by the Yardi ridge.

Population
According to the 2011 India Census, the population of the city is 1,960,631 people. The literacy rate is 87.38% (91.84% men and 82.55% women). For every 1,000 men, there are 921 women. The proportion of children under 6 years old is 11.48% [1] .
Economy
Currently Indore is an important business center of the region. In the city are large manufacturers of steel and automobiles. Other significant industries include the production of cement, tile, furniture, sports goods, the textile and chemical industries [2] .
Transportation
Indaura Airport ( Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport ) is located 8 km south-east of the city, serves only local flights to destinations such as Delhi , Mumbai , Bhopal , Bangalore , Hyderabad , Pune , Calcutta and other cities.
