Kalugin, Yuri Aronovich

Born in Chisinau in the family of Aron Mordkovich Kligman (? —1913) and Mary (Maria) Abramovna Blank, who married in the same place in 1868 ^[1] . The father’s family came from the town of Dunaevtsy . He graduated from the Law Faculty of Novorossiysk University in Odessa , after which he returned to Bessarabia that became Romanian (1918) ^[2] .

In 1921-1938 he worked in the Bessarabian Word newspaper, published in Russian in Chisinau, and published under his own name Julius Klugman. Together with G. Blok and D. Remenko, he published the newspaper “Svobodnoe Slovo” (in connection with which he was under the supervision of Sigurans ) ^[3] . Collaborated in another Chisinau newspaper, the Morning (1922) organ of independent democratic thought. In 1926 he became one of the founders, a member of the Presidium and the cashier of the Union of Professional Journalists of Bessarabia ^[4] . In 1938, he signed a collective letter to the Bucharest newspaper Universul protesting against the ban on publishing Jewish journalists in periodicals of the country ^[5] .

After Bessarabia joined the USSR in 1940, he worked as a correspondent in the radio committee of the Moldavian SSR and as head of the literary section of the Moldavian State Philharmonic. With the outbreak of war, he was evacuated to the state farm of the village of Ordzhonikidze (now Jalair) in the Tashkent region , where he continued to work as a journalist. In documents of the Soviet era was recorded as "Julius Aronovich Klugman" (born in 1892) ^[6] . Then he began to write historical prose. In the post-war years he lived in Simferopol , worked in Kurortnaya Gazeta, Crimean Truth and other periodicals. In 1959, in the Simferopol newspaper Crimean Truth, his work Griboedov in Crimea was published ^[7] .

The story “The wife of the Decembrist (Maria Volkonskaya)” was published as a separate book in 1963 (and translated into German in 1964); the story of Adam Mickiewicz "He lived between us ..." - in 1962. He published several plays on historical material. Most of the works remained unpublished (the novels “Belinsky” and “There is Moscow in the World”, historical stories about the Decembrists and Russian writers of the XIX century, poems for children and adults). The story "Mrs. K." was published in the magazine "Moscow" for December 2017.

He translated poetry and fiction from the Ukrainian language , including collections of poetic humoreses by S. V. Rudansky (1955, 1959).
