Apotemophilia is a form of sexual fetishism combined with masochism , in which the role of the fetish is played by deformities of one's own body, disability (for example, lack of limb) [1] [2] . Apotemophilia should not be confused with acrotomophilia : an attraction to people with amputated limbs [3] .
The term Apotemnophilia was first coined by sexologist John Mani in 1977, calling it a rare sexual deviation .
A person with apotemophilia has a mental illness - a violation of the body scheme (an example of this disorder is phantom pain after amputation, which usually disappears after a while, as the brain adapts). He seeks to amputate a healthy limb, seeking doctors to perform such an operation, including resorting to methods of shadow medicine or self-harm [4] [5] .
There is also a specific area of the disorder - the left upper parietal lobe (VPD) [6] , thus postulating the neurological nature of the disease. Left VPD receives neural connections from many other areas, namely the visual, primary somatosensory, secondary somatosensory, premotor and motor cortex.
