Biography
Casandra Bradette was born in Saint-Felicien , Quebec , Canada . Her father insisted that Kassandra join the local ice hockey team, but changed his mind after watching the performance of Canadian ice skater Marie-Eva Drolet, who won gold at the 2000 World Junior Championships in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. After that, in 2000, Kassandra began to train in a short track. Since 2000, she has been training professionally at the base of the Les Eclairs: Saint-Félicien club. In the national team, the well-known Canadian short tracker, the Olympic champion and coach Frederick Blackburn responsible for its preparation . She studied at the University of Quebec in Montreal with a degree in biochemistry . Married to a well-known Canadian short-track player, Olympic champion - Samuel Girard [1] .
The best, at the moment, her personal indicator at the international level competition, Bradett demonstrated during the 2017 World Short Track Championships , which took place in the South Korean city of Seoul . March 11 at Mokdon Stadium during the 1000 meter race among women, Bradett finished third with a result of 1: 32.607 (+1.142), losing to higher positions to rivals from the UK ( Eliza Christie , 1: 31.980 (+0.515) - 2nd place) and South Korea ( Choi Min John , 1: 31.465 - 1st place) [2] [3] . The second medal in these competitions was obtained in the women's relay. On March 13, at the Mokdon Stadium, the Canadian team finished second with a score of 4: 16.618 (+1.387), losing to the rivals from South Korea (4: 15.231 - 1st place), ahead of the short track players from Russia (4: 16.227 (+ 0.996) - 3rd place) [4] [5] .
At the 2018 Winter Olympics , Casandra Bradette was announced to participate in the relay . On February 20, in the Gyeongpo Ice Hall with a score of 2: 59.72, the Canadian team finished second in final B, losing the battle for bronze medals to rivals from the USA (2: 59.27 - 3rd place) [6] [7] . This result was due to the following circumstance. On the 27th lap, an athlete from China, trying to take a position more advantageous for the breakthrough, did not stay on her feet and knocked down an opponent from Canada, and the Canadian, in turn, knocked down the Italian, but on her feet held her and ran to the finish line after the race leader, a Korean woman, who managed to avoid a collision. The judges after watching the video replay of the race decided to disqualify both the team from Canada and the team from China, give silver to the Italians, and bronze to the winners of the final in the Dutch [8] [9] [10] . This decision caused a wave of indignation from the Canadian athletes, as the South Korean team (the culprits of the fall according to the Canadians) eventually became the race champions [11] [12] [13] .
