Biography
Born September 9, 1911 in the city of Winnipeg , Canada , in a family of emigrants from Russia [1] . In 1929 he graduated from high school in Rostov-on-Don [2] . In 1937 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University , and then graduated from it. In May 1940, formerly an assistant to Professor A. A. Borzov , he defended his thesis on the topic: “The Main Features of the Development of the Terrain of the Northern Part of the Oka River Basin” [2] . In 1940-1952 Engaged in prospecting and exploration of gold and other mineral deposits in Siberia . In the 1950s, he taught at the University of Chernivtsi , and also worked as an adviser to the rector at Peking University ( China ). From 1960 to the end of his life he worked at the Saratov State University. N. Chernyshevsky , headed the department of geomorphology and geodesy and at the same time was the dean of the Faculty of Geography. In the years 1965-1969. - Rector of the University [3] [4] .
He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR of the 7th convocation, and was also a deputy of the Saratov city Council of Workers' Deputies, chairman of the Saratov Regional Organization of the Knowledge Society, headed the head council on geography and meteorology of the MV and MTR of the RSFSR [5] .
In 1967 he was elected honorary doctor of the University of Bratislava. Jan Amos Kamensky [5] .
Valentin Grigorievich Lebedev was one of the first geomorphologists in the country, who joined in the search and exploration of minerals. The Saratov period of work was the most striking and fruitful in his scientific, pedagogical and social activities: then he organized a series of comprehensive studies of the natural conditions of the Volga region . In particular, he prepared a training reference atlas on natural conditions and natural resources of the Saratov region [6] . He was the author of more than 49 articles, monographs and study guides [4] .
He died on September 9, 1971 in Saratov on the day of his sixtieth birthday [4] .
