Biography
Kalumbi Shangula was born in 1948 in the Republic of Namibia [1] .
On June 21, 1981, he married Elizabeth Hinananye , a student born in Omusati , the administrative region of Namibia, who came to the USSR to study at the Peoples' Friendship University. Three children were born in the marriage [2] .
In 1983, he graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Peoples' Friendship. Patrice Lumumba [3] [1] [4] .
During his studies in Moscow, he was the Acting Chairman of Namibian students in the USSR . After graduation in Moscow, he studied at Harvard University in the United States , majoring in Public Health. He graduated from the graduate school at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London , specializing in Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He received a master's degree in business administration from the School of Management in Maastricht in the Netherlands . Returning to Africa, he began working as head of the military hospital and director of the medical service of the People's Army for the Liberation of Namibia. After independence was declared, he received the position of medical superintendent for district hospitals in the north-western region. After a while, he became the regional director. He also served as director of the Namibian Institute of Pathology, was the trustee of the Indira Gandhi Foundation, the commissioner for older people, the personal physician of the first President of Namibia, and the chairman of the board of trustees of the Welfare Fund for Older Persons [1] .
From 1996 to 2007, he served as permanent deputy minister of health and social welfare. In 2007, he became the Permanent Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism [1] .
Chairman of the National Council for Higher Education of Namibia. Member of the WHO Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee for Public Health Insurance Doctor of Medical Sciences. Member of the Namibian Medical and Dental Council, member of the board of directors of Namibia Wildlife Resorts. Member of the Medical Association of Namibia, is a member of the Royal Community of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene of Great Britain and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences [1] .
