History
The construction of the Kristiansholm fortress began in accordance with the plan of King Christian IV on the protection of Kristiansand in 1641 [1] . The architect of the fortress was Major General . Kristiansholm was built on the island, about 100 meters from the coast. Nowadays, the fortress is connected with the mainland. The construction of the fortress was completed under King Frederick III in 1672 [2] . The only time the fortress was attacked was during the Napoleonic Wars , when in 1807 the garrison of the fortress repulsed the rollback of the British fleet led by HMS Spencer [3] . The fortress was decommissioned by royal decree of Charles IV in June 1872 . Today, Christiansholm is a tourist attraction of Kristiansannia and a venue for various cultural events and celebrations. It is currently owned by the municipality and is a place used mainly for leisure and cultural events.
