Asparagus for the most part grasses, less often shrubs, shrubs or trees; their leaves are often replaced by cladodias, bristle, needle or lamellar; real leaves appear in the form of small scales. The flowers are either single, appearing at the top of the stem (in Paris , Trillium ), or in the bosom of the leaves, or flowers are collected in the brush ( Convallaria , Majanthemum ), panicles or ears (in Dracaena ). The flower is bisexual or unisexual, usually with three-membered circles, while in Majanthemum , as an exception, two-membered, in Paris - four-membered. The perianth is simple, dicotyledonous or (in the lily of the valley ) spine-leaved; stamens two circles; pestle with upper three-, two- or four-nest ovary, short column and lobed stigma. Fruit - a single-seeded or multi-seeded berry; protein seed.

Systematics

Previously, asparagus was considered to be standing very close to the Liliaceae family, and by many authors this family was taken only as a subfamily of Liliaceae. The family of asparagus was distinguished from the liliaceae in that the fruit always had a berry (in liliaceae capsules), and in that there were no bulbs that are so common in liliaceae.

In the APG II Classification System, most genera were transferred to other families, as a result of which only a few genera remained in the asparagus family:

  • Asparagus
  • Myrsiphyllum
  • Protasparagus

Compared to the classification system APG II (2003), the APG III (2009) system has undergone significant changes affecting the Asparagaceae family : it included the Agave , Hyacinth , Iglitz and others considered earlier as independent families. According to the APW website, the total number of genera of the family in 2010 is 153, and the total number of species is 2480 [2] .
