Sörland Museum of Art

The Sörland Museum of Art ( Norwegian Sørlandets Kunstmuseum ) is an art museum located in Kristiansand , in the county of Agder in Sörland , Norway . It is the largest regional collection of Norwegian art of the XVIII — XX centuries.

The museum was founded in 1995 as a foundation supported by the administrations of the fülke Aust-Agder and West-Agder administrations, as well as the Kristiansand municipality.

Since 2000, the museum occupies a building built in 1877 for the (used by the school until 1970).

The permanent exhibition includes works by Norwegian artists of the 18th – 20th centuries, among which the masters of the realistic school Christian Krogh and Morten Müller , the painter and graphic artist Johan Dahl , Amaldus Nielsen , , as well as contemporary artists used fabric canvases to create artistic images.

In 2004, an international competition was announced to create an architectural project for the new museum building on the waterfront, next to the Kilden Theater and concert hall [2] .

Since 2015, the museum has been collaborating with art collector Nikolai Tangen, who has a significant collection of Norwegian and Scandinavian art since the 1930s. For the collection of Tangen, by 2021 it is supposed to open a separate exhibition room [3] .

The museum is also a major educational center, where art seminars are held, films about the history of world culture are shown, shift exhibitions are held, Sørland's workers organize field exhibitions in kindergartens and schools. In addition, museum executives who are interested in educating young people on weekends or during school holidays often hold educational events that can be attended by the whole family.

The Sörland Art Museum is open throughout the year, working from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 17:00 (opens in the summer one hour earlier). Monday is a day off, and on Sunday, business hours are from 12:00 to 16:00. Ticket price is 60 CZK, for pensioners - 40 CZK. Students and children under 18 are admitted to the museum for free.
