Biography
Born May 8, 1949 in Ruvo del Monte , Basilicata region . In his youth, he moved with his parents to Salerno , where he graduated from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Salerno . As a student, he became interested in politics, joined the Italian Communist Party , began to work on solving problematic issues in agriculture in the province of Salerno .
In 1990, he was elected to the Salerno City Council, held the posts of Public Works Advisor and Deputy Mayor of the city. In 1993 he became the mayor of the city, re-elected to the post in 1997, 2006 and 2011. In 2001, he participated in the parliamentary elections in Italy , as a result of which he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies . He was a member of the emergency response commission, the transport and telecommunications commission, and the agriculture commission.
In January 2013, the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore organized a survey of the Italian population, according to which Vincenzo De Luca was recognized as the country's most popular mayor. At the end of 2014, he announced his participation in the presidential election campaign from the Democratic Party, won with a result of 52% of the vote. June 18, 2015 became the president of the Campaign.
