ADR Civil Oath

The first flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

Each person who accepted the citizenship of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) had to take an oath of allegiance to the state in accordance with the procedure specified in article VI of the "Law on Citizenship of Azerbaijan" of the Parliament of the Republic of August 11, 1919.

The oath said:

"I (first name and surname), joining the ranks of Azerbaijani citizens, give my word and swear before Allah Almighty and my conscience that I will sacredly observe my loyalty to Azerbaijan, after that I will not recognize the other Motherland except him, I will strictly fulfill all the obligations of an Azerbaijani citizen, I will sincerely work for the prosperity of Azerbaijan, I will sacrifice my strength, property, and, if necessary, even my life in the name of Azerbaijan. May Allah be a witness to my oath . "
