Ernestas Galvanauskas ( lit. Ernestas Galvanauskas ; November 20, 1882 , village, Coven province , Russian Empire (now - Birzhaisky district , Lithuania ) - July 24, 1967 , Aix-les-Bains , France ) - Lithuanian public and statesman, prime minister in several governments; by education, mining engineer and electrical engineer.

He studied at a primary school in Vabalininkai and at a two-year real school in Panevezys . He graduated from high school in Mitava (now Jelgava ). In 1902 - 1904 and 1906 - 1908 he studied at the St. Petersburg Mining Institute . In 1908 - 1912 he completed his education in Liege . In 1913 he received a diploma in electrical engineering. He collaborated in the newspapers Vilniaus Ginos (Vilenskie Vesti) and Lietuvos ukininkas . The author of a number of scientific papers. In 1913 he worked in Serbia in a consortium of French banks. In 1919 he organized the Lithuanian Information Bureau in Paris. One of the founders of the Union of Peasants of Lithuania ( Lietuvos valstiečių sąjunga ). Member of the Democratic Party.

Prime Minister

Klaipeda

Later years

In the government of Antanas Merkis ( November 21, 1939 - June 17, 1940 ) was Minister of Finance. After Lithuania joined the USSR in 1940, he left for Klaipeda, which at that time had become part of Nazi Germany . In January 1941, he joined the Lithuanian National Committee ( Lietuvos Tautinis Komitetas ) and was its chairman (the committee was created abroad in September 1940 on the initiative of the ambassadors of the independent Republic of Lithuania who remained abroad and with the participation of the fled President Antanas Smetona . transformed into the Lithuanian government in exile, however, the committee did not play any significant role), as a result of which he was expelled from Klaipeda to Germany, where in 1946 he took part in activities created during Occupation of the Supreme Committee for the Liberation of Lithuania . In 1947 he emigrated to Madagascar , where he was engaged in teaching activities. In 1963 he moved to France , where he died.
