Henry, one of the most wanted retired killers, lives as a hermit on a lake. Once an accident happens nearby: a girl crashes on a motorcycle sled. The character of Renault saves the barely living heroine of Sarah Lind ^[6] .

Script

The script was written four years before filming. Jean Renault suggested Petizhan sell it. The author refused, wanting to make a film himself. As a result, the scriptwriter and actor created a tandem that launched filmmaking ^[8] .

Pre-Production

On February 10, 2016, it became publicly known about the upcoming film by Frederic Petizhan “The Last Step”, in which Jean Renault will star. France was planning to take part in international film production ("Seven 52 "," Eight 35 "), Canada (" Raven Banner Entertainment's "," Berserker "), United Kingdom (" Moviehouse Entertainment ") ^{[9] [10]} .

In May 2016, “Moviehouse Entertainment” announced the start of filming in Saskatchewan, Canada in November of that year ^[11] .

However, filming was postponed. Producer Laurent Tolron in an interview recalled that from the very beginning the story really had to develop in Canada. The director and the team have been looking for a place for filming for a long time. Then Thierry Arbogast suggested looking for suitable landscapes in Ukraine, where the operator already had experience ^[12] .

At the same time, the composition of the participants underwent a change. On October 27, 2017, it became known that, instead of “Moviehouse Entertainment,” Goldcrest Films (Great Britain) will be selling film rights worldwide. At the same time it was reported that “Seven 52”, “Eight 35” remained in the project, the Ukrainian studio “East West Production” joined and the filming was scheduled for December 2017 ^[13] . Soon, the filming date was specified - February 2018 ^[14] .

In October 2017, the director visited the Ukrainian Carpathians in search of places for full-scale shooting ^[15] . The choice fell on the Synevyr National Park (Transcarpathian region) with the lake of the same name. By mid-February 2018, the place for full-scale shooting was ready.

Filming

On February 18, 2018, the film crew left for the Carpathians. At that time, the issue of two actors had not yet been resolved. Also, cameraman Thierry Arbogast was detained by Luc Besson ^[16] - on the set of the film " Anna ".

On February 25, Frederic Petizhan announced that new actors joined the team: David Gezy and Joe Anderson ^[17] .

Filming in the Carpathians lasted almost two weeks. The footage will be 30 minutes of the total duration of the film ^[18] .

On March 22, 2018 in Kiev, the director and other project participants held a press conference. By this time, about 70% of the film was shot. The main locations are the Carpathians in the vicinity of about. Synevyr. The shooting of the remaining scenes was moved to Kiev ^[1] .

It was also reported that among the Kiev episodes in the film will feature Podil and the city ​​metro ^[19] .

March 30, 2018 in Ukraine, the shooting was over ^{[20] [21]} .

Then, in the USA and Canada, filing plans were filmed for the correspondence of the film material of the storyline ^[22] .

Post Production

After March 30, the film began editing. This happened in parallel with overseas filming ^[23] .

On October 9, 2018, the director announced that the editing of the film was over, it remains to make dubbing and issue subtitles . And also the final title of the film is defined - “Cold Blood Legacy” (“Legacy of Cold Blood”) ^[24] .

During the filming, they tried to compare Henry with the hitman Leon, who was played by Jean Renault in the 1994 film of the same name . The actor admitted that he does not care about such comparisons, all roles are different ^[1] .

However, Renault remained a hostage to Leon. Browser Jordan Mintzer noted that Renault does not so much play the famous role, but plays it tiredly on the screen again. And really plays the one who really should be retired ^[25] .

• At the beginning of the filming, information was circulated that “The Last Step” would be the last film with the participation of Jean Renault ^{[3] [26]} . At a press conference on March 22, 2018, Jean Renault denied the rumors, saying about the prospects: “My plans are to get on a plane and fly to participate in the next project. It will be shooting in the mountains between France and Spain ” ^[27] .

• In the Carpathians, 94 people were involved - the maximum crew for the whole time. In particular, there were tractor drivers who cleaned the snow from the road to about. Synevyr ^[22] .
